C.K. "Sonny" Booth Named Limousin Hall of Fame Inductee

Tue, 19 May 2015 11:53:25 CDT

C.K. Induction into the North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) Hall of Fame is the highest honor the Foundation can bestow upon an individual. Auctioneer C.K. "Sonny" Booth will be the sixth person to receive this prestigious recognition, in the nearly 25-year history of the Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony will take place June 30, 2015 at 6:00 p.m., held in conjunction with the 2015 Tulsa Time National Junior Limousin Show & Congress and All-American Futurity at the Expo Square, Tulsa, Okla.

"Sonny's contribution to not only the Limousin breed but the entire beef industry is nationally recognized. Sonny's personality is genuine. His dedication to the Limousin breed spans more than five decades. He has the uncanny ability to create enthusiasm, which is complemented by his knack for accentuating the positive. Where ethics are judged, he is a champion," comments Mark Smith of Ankeny, Iowa and NALF Hall of Fame committee chairman. "I can think of no other individual more deserving of this award in looking at his years of dedication and service to the Limousin breed and NALF members."

A native of Miami, Okla., Booth attended Oklahoma State University and was a member of the livestock judging team, as well as the Block and Bridle club and the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Booth was on the 1963 OSU judging team that won the National Western Stock Show contest, and where Sonny claimed high individual honors.

Booth served on the NALF board of directors and was elected president in 1993. The Oklahoma Limousin Breeders Association honored him in 1997 with their Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 2009, he was inducted into the Livestock Marketeers Hall of Fame, an informal fraternity of livestock fieldmen, auctioneers, sale managers, and related livestock business leaders. At the induction, Doug Paul, president of The Stock Exchange News said, "Sonny is one of the great ones. There is no greater thing than a friend, and Sonny Booth is our friend."

Booth has been a livestock auctioneer for nearly 46 years, working with all breeds of cattle and horses. Sonny has sold more than 5,000 livestock sales and travels 200 days a year selling purebred livestock. He has also been affiliated with Williams & Williams Auction Co., Tulsa, Okla., specializing in premier farm and ranch properties.

One of the more interesting sales that Sonny auctioned was the sale of the entire town of Buford, Wyo., in 2009. He is also a member of the National Auctioneers Association.

Dale Runnion, long time Limousin promoter and NALF Hall of Fame inductee in 1993, once said of Colonel Booth, "His skill on the auction block, his dedication to the breed, and the personable way he conducts his business is appreciated by the consignors and buyers alike. His full sale schedule is a true indication of the confidence that Limousin breeders have for him and his abilities to do the right job for them."

The Booth family includes his wife, Mary, and three daughters Kym, Kelli, and Rachel.

Booth will be presented with a portrait to be hung in the NALF Hall of Fame, as well as a book of congratulatory letters. Breeders and friends that would like to send a congratulatory letter or make a contribution to the Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund in Sonny's honor may do so by contacting the NALF Hall of Fame Committee, c/o Mark Smith, 2511 NE 99th Place, Ankeny IA, 50021, or the North American Limousin Foundation at limousin@nalf.org or 303-220-1693.
