Wheat Harvest Over Half Done in Southwest Ok - Other Regions Just Really Starting 2015 Harvest

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 15:47:51 CDT

Wheat Harvest Over Half Done in Southwest Ok - Other Regions Just Really Starting 2015 Harvest During the month of June, the Oklahoma Wheat Commission will be releasing regular wheat harvest reports. Today's report from Executive Director Mike Schulte is the latest report of the 2015 harvest season. Here is his report as of Wednesday afternoon, June tenth:

Harvest is continuing to move forward from the Oklahoma/Texas border to the Oklahoma/Kansas border with machines just getting a good start in the Northern regions of the state. In the far regions of Southern Oklahoma along the Oklahoma/Texas border in some places they are 85% to 90% complete. In South Central regions and Central regions of Oklahoma most areas are running anywhere from 20 percent complete to 55 percent complete depending on locations. If producers can get the next couple days in without rain in Southern and Central Oklahoma, completion in some of these areas will be much closer. Crop quality in this report is showing yields and test weights to be ranging all over the board with lighter test weights showing up in the Northern regions of the state on the early samples received. Elevator managers and producers are hopeful this trend might change once they get into better wheat, however the predicted rains this coming weekend, if received, will not help that matter. Proteins that are being reported are averaging 11 to 11.5 percent with some higher proteins around 13 being reported in places of Northern Oklahoma.

Southwest Oklahoma-

Hollis- Test weights in this region are averaging 56 lbs. to 57 lbs. per bushel.   Not much grain has been taken in at this region because of the extreme drought before the rains that were received this past month. No yields or proteins are reported from this location. Harvest is approximately 70-75% complete in this region.

Frederick- Harvest in this region is 70 to 75 percent complete. Yields reported have been ranging from the mid 20's to as high as 54 bushels per acre. Test weights are averaging 58 lbs. to 59 lbs. per bushel with some higher test weights coming in at 60 lbs. per bushel. No sprout damage has been reported in this region, if any has shown up it has been less than 1%.

Altus- Harvest in this region is 70 percent complete. Yields are ranging from low 20's to 40 bushels per acre depending on variety. Test weights are averaging 57 lbs. to 59 lbs. per bushel, with some reports on test weights as high as 63 lbs. per bushel. Proteins are averaging 11% to 11.5% with some 12% being reported. No sprout damage has been reported in this area, if any exist it is very minimal.

Hobart- Harvest in this region is approximately 50 percent complete. Test weights are averaging 57.5 lbs. to 58 lbs. per bushel. Proteins are averaging 11.5% with no sprout damage reported. Yields ranging all over the board from 20's to 40's for the most part.

Lone Wolf- Harvest in this region is approximately 50 percent complete. Test weights are averaging 57.5 lbs. to 58 lbs. per bushel. Proteins are averaging 11% to 11.5% with no sprout damage reported. Yields ranging all over the board from 20's to 40's for the most part.

Chickasha & Apache- Harvest in this region is approximately 30 to 40 percent complete, test weights in this region are coming in lower with averages around 55 lbs. to 56 lbs. per bushel. Yields being reported have ranged from 7 bushels per acre to 37 bushels per acre. Protein on wheat that has been tested has been averaging 11% to 12%.

Bessie- Yields in this area have been averaging 20 to 25 bushels per acre. Harvesting in this region has been progressing slower because of wheat that is laying down in the fields from heavy rains and hail damage that was received earlier in May.   Test weights have been averaging 56 lbs. per bushel with lighter weights present. Ranges in test weights reported came in at 42 lbs. to as high as 62 lbs. per bushel. No proteins from this region have been reported, with no sprout damage present in this region.

Central Oklahoma

El Reno- Test weights in this region have been ranging all over the board on wheat that has been taken in so far. Weights have ranged from 49 lbs. to 62 lbs. per bushel with the average of test weights at this location coming in at 59.5 lbs. to 60 lbs. per bushel. Harvest in this region has not progressed as fast as North of El Reno in the Okarche, Kingfisher and Cashion areas. Approximately 20 percent of the harvest is complete in this region. Yields reported so far have ranged from 20 bushels per acre to 60 bushels per acre. One load at this location has been reported as having 15% sprout damage, other than that one load, no sprout damage has been seen on other wheat taken in.
