Governor Mary Fallin recently re-appointed Don Schieber to a five-year term on the Oklahoma Wheat Commission Board. Schieber, a wheat producer from Ponca City, will represent District V, which encompasses all counties east of the western boundary lines of Kay, Noble, Logan, Oklahoma, Cleveland, Grady, Stephens and Jefferson counties.
"We are excited that Don Schieber has been re-appointed to the Oklahoma Wheat Commission board," said Mike Schulte, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission. "His knowledge and experience with wheat production as a farmer and his previous roles with the Kay County Farm Bureau and Kay County Conservation Boards will lend him well to this position. Don has served on the U.S. Wheat Associates Board of Directors and as their past Chairman. This has given Don the skillset that will continue to be most useful for actions and endeavors of the wheat industry."
Don's responsibilities as a member of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission includes working with the other members to develop and oversee the implementation of policy and programs, approve budget expenditures, direct the funding of research, market development and public education, represent district producer interests, and promote Oklahoma wheat.
Schieber is an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ponca City, is a member of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau and serves on the Oklahoma Genetics Incorporated Board of Director
"Schieber has been instrumental in owning and managing a successful full time farming operation that is made up of wheat and soybean production. Schieber also has a custom harvesting and seed cleaning business. It will be beneficial to have his knowledge on state and national levels when making funding decisions on wheat research and marketing efforts that in turn will help Oklahoma wheat producers," Schulte said.
Don and his wife Cecelia currently operate their family farming operation in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Schieber joins current commission members Kenneth Failes, Cherokee; Tom Stephens, Guymon, Michael Peters, Okarche; David Gammill, Chattanooga.
The Oklahoma Wheat Commission promotes greater utilization of wheat in both domestic and international markets through research, market development and public education.
