Feeder Cattle Narrative Report for 06/29/2015

Actual Receipts: 6,660   Last Monday: 4,690   Year Ago Monday: 5,791

Compared to last week: Feeder steers traded mostly steady to 3.00 lower. Feeder heifers unevenly steady on limited comparable sales from the previous week. Steer and heifer calves too lightly tested for a market trend, but a mostly steady undertone was noted. Quality was mostly plain to average, with the majority of the supply consisting of Medium and Large 1-2 type cattle. Although the CME Feeder and Live Cattle contracts recovered as they closed higher on Monday, the tone in the barn was set by last week's CME trends which saw both contracts close lower for four consecutive days. Demand was still moderate to good, as cattle movement is expected to be lighter this week with many of the auctions falling later in the week closing in honor of the 4th of July holiday. Supply included 80 percent over 600 lbs and 31 percent heifers.
