Southern Plains Wheat Planting Remains Behind, as Corn and Sorghum Harvest Progresses Corn harvest has surpassed the midpoint in Oklahoma. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports corn harvest was 52 percent complete. That's 14 points behind the five-year average of 66. Sorghum harvest was 39 percent complete, 11 points ahead of normal. Peanuts were ten percent harvested, while soybean harvest was at one percent complete. Forty eight percent of the cotton bolls were opening. Wheat planting was 21 percent complete, 12 points behind the five year average of 33. Canola planting was 33 percent complete, five points behind average.

Texas farmers were balancing fall harvest and wheat planting. USDA reports corn and sorghum harvest was 63 percent complete. Soybean harvest was 46 percent complete, that was 19 points behind average. Cotton harvest was 16 percent complete and peanuts were 17 percent harvested. Winter wheat planting was 24 percent complete, ten points behind average and two percent of the crop has emerged. Some farmers are waiting for soil moisture conditions to improve.
