U.S. Beef and Pork Supplies Reach Record Levels of Past 100 Years

U.S. beef supplies are at the highest level since 1915. That's according to the cold storage report released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Total red meat supplies in freezers in September were up two percent from the previous month and up 24 percent from last year. Total red meat is a record high for the month of September, since the data was first recorded in 1916. Total pounds of beef in freezers were up six percent from the previous month and up 31 percent from last year. Total beef is a record high for the month of September, since the data was first recorded in 1915. Frozen pork supplies were up slightly from the previous month and up 19 percent from last year. Total pork is a record high for the month of September, since the data was first recorded in 1915. Stocks of pork bellies were down 21 percent from last month and down 68 percent from last year.
