More Heavy Weight Placements Compared to Year Ago in Latest Cattle on Feed Report

Today's Beef Buzz looks under the hood of the November USDA Cattle on Feed report that was released this past Friday. Offering his analysis of the report is Tom Leffler with Leffler Commodities.   Leffler says these latest cattle on feed numbers were in line with trade expectations. Uncle Sam reported the number of cattle and calves on feed totaled 10.8 million head on November 1, 2015. The inventory was two percent above last November. The latest on feed numbers were 3.3 percent below the five year average. Leffler calls the latest report "neutral". He said this makes eight straight months that cattle on feed numbers were larger than the previous year.

While the on feed numbers were above a year ago- the Placement and Marketing numbers were both under that of a year ago- but close to what the trade was anticpating. The heavy weight placements- over 800 pounds- continued to run above that of one year ago.

Leffler talked with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network's Leslie Smith after the report was released on Friday- and highlights of that conversation are featured in this Beef Buzz hosted by Ron Hays.

The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the region on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
