Oklahoma Ag Coop Council Thanks Oklahoma House Delegation For Support of GMO Labeling Bill in House
Sat, 16 Jul 2016 10:08:41 CDT
The Oklahoma Agricultural Coop Council released the following statement after the passage in the United States House of S. 764, the Senate compromise on the labeling of GMO ingredients in food products.
"The OACC is pleased the U.S. House of Representatives passed the GMO Labeling Act by a vote of 306-117. We appreciate a yes vote and want to thank Congressman Cole, Lucas, Russell and Mullin, with Bridenstine being the only Oklahoma delegation member voting no on this historic legislation.
"This act is vital for farmers and ranchers to continue to utilize much needed technology on the farm to produce an abundant, safe and affordable food supply. This bill, while not perfect, will keep food cost down for consumers as well as manufactures. It will stop a patchwork of laws across the country which would have caused great confusion about the safety of GMOs and created an almost unworkable situation for food manufactures, restaurants and farmers.
"This historic piece of legislation is headed to the President's desk where he is expected to sign it."
