It's Now or Never on TPP- Colin Woodall of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association
Fri, 28 Oct 2016 07:51:45 CDT
Colin Woodall is blunt about TPP- the trans Pacific Partnership. The Vice President for Governmental Affairs of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association says that a Lame Duck vote is the only shot that proponents of the measure have in getting it ratified.
"It's now or never on TPP. This not something that can be renegotiated- you hear that from the Presidential candidates. There's no renegotiating TPP- the agreement has been signed. It was signed back in February and now we waiting for all the countries involved to pass it, so it's not going to go back and be re-opened."
Woodall contends the beef cattle industry is losing $400,000 every single day that TPP is not in place- based on lost sales of beef into Japan by virtue of the tarriff advantage that Australia has over the US. Woodall adds that will get even worse in 2017 when the gap between our tariffs on beef into Japan and those of the Aussies widens even more.
Woodall talks with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays about the TPP on today's Beef Buzz. Click below for the audio on the LISTEN BAR- you can also jump over on our website and listen to our entire conversation between Hays and Woodall by clicking here for our Podcast.
