Emily Kennedy of Edmond Wins Big at National FFA Convention in Creed Speaking

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 15:02:48 CDT

Emily Kennedy of Edmond Wins Big at National FFA Convention in Creed Speaking Emily Kennedy of the Edmond FFA Chapter describes hearing her name announced as the winner of the National FFA Creed contest as, "truly overwhelming." Emily joined Farm Director Ron Hays as his guest this week for his In the Field segment and spoke to him about her momentous experience at the recent National FFA Convention held this month in Indianapolis. She reveals the reality of winning was delayed at first.

"I was in shock," Emily said, "Once I got backstage and after I did an interview, that's when it really hit me. It was just the best feeling in the world."

She says winning the national competition filled her with as much achievement as it did relief.

"That feeling was so amazing because all of the stress was just lifted off my shoulders and I had the accomplishment of 'this is all over - I've worked for this,'" Emily said. "I could not stop thinking about how God has blessed me through my whole FFA experience."

Emily attributes her time spent and her experiences volunteering at the Oklahoma Baptist Home for Children with playing a vital role in making her the person she is today. She says her passion for her work and the relationships she has built there, gave meaning and tangibility to the words she recited at each contest culminating to her national victory. That kind of passion she advises is what members following her footsteps will need in order to be successful.

"What I would tell those younger members is just to have a passion for what you do," Emily said. "If you are passionate about agriculture and you are passionate about learning the new technologies and you're passionate about learning your history and learning everything that you can, and you are driven to know all that you can know - you will be very successful."

Emily will join Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays for his weekly In the Field segment on KWTV News9 in the Oklahoma City area on Saturday morning at 6:40 a.m.
