Cherokees and NORA Partner to Host Agri-Business Education Training Focused on FSA Programs

The Northeast Oklahoma Regional Alliance and the Cherokee Nation will hold three training and information sessions in NE Oklahoma focusing how to utilize FSA and US Department of Agriculture program. Current producers as well those interested in farming are encouraged to attend.
Sessions will be taught by Dr. H.L. Goodwin, Jr. and Janie Hipp, JD, LLM of the University of Arkansas. Hipp will provide legal and regulatory expertise. The training sessions will provide key information tailored for Northeast Oklahoma farmers, ranchers, and food entrepreneurs. Topics will include risk taking and management, record keeping, negotiating the changing landscape in regulatory, and legal issues for farming operations.
Financial topics will focus on improving credit access and access to key USDA programs navigating the available credit programs, borrowing preparedness. Food resource landscape assessments will also be discussed. The sessions are scheduled to be held Oct. 29 at the community building, located at 429 S. 9th St. in Jay, Okla, Nov. 5 at the armory building, located at 100 N. water Ave. in Tahlequah, Okla, and Dec. 3 at Rogers State university, located at 1701 W. According to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture 2015 statistics, in Oklahoma more than 34 million acres are used by over 78,000 farms. The agriculture business has a $40 billion impact on the Oklahoma economy.
Dr. Goodwin, Jr. received a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Goodwin, Jr. and Hipp are both native Oklahomans.
