President Elect Trump Renews Vow to Withdraw From TPP on Day One of His Presidency
Mon, 21 Nov 2016 20:23:37 CST
Agriculture heard confirmation from President Elect Donald Trump that he has no intention of working with Japan or other countries that are a part of the Trans Pacific Partnership to salvage that agreement. Trump, in a video released on Monday, said that on the first day he is President, he will send a letter to those countries involved that he will withdraw from the Trans Pacific Partnership.
Agricultural groups were hoping that the incoming President might be willing to reconsider the 12 nation deal- but backing away from TPP was a critical element of his campaign in parts of middle America where thousands of jobs have gone overseas. Agriculture would be the biggest winner if the US approved the trade deal.
Few other specifics were given- but he addressed energy, regulations signaled that he would be asking key players in the Administration to develop a plan to protect the security of America's infrastructure.
