Tue, 02 Apr 2019 16:38:13 CDT
During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report is spotlighting the twenty Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA that are among the highest achievers in the organization. The stars come from the five areas in four categories- Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness and Star in Production Agriculture. This week, we spotlight the five area stars in Agricultural Placement for 2019. One Star Finalist featured in the coming days from each of the categories, will be named the State Star Award Winner during the Oklahoma State FFA Convention coming up April 30 - May 1, 2019 in Oklahoma City.
Our coverage begins today with the Southeast Area Star in Agriculture Placement, Tyler Grigg of the Latta FFA Chapter. Grigg has been recognized in this year's Star competition for his employment with Sullivan Supply, travelling the state selling and repairing show supplies for livestock exhibitors.
"I had grown up showing livestock and then whenever the job opportunity came up - I took it," Grigg said. "I've travelled to most every livestock show in the state from pigs to sheep to cattle to goats- I went to all of them. All the big ones and all the little ones."
During his time working with Sullivan Supply, Grigg says he has had to learn the fine art of customer service in order to be successful at his job. He says he has enjoyed that aspect of it which has allowed him to build relationships in a community that spans the entire state. He credits his involvement with the FFA with giving him the foundation and tools he needed to be successful in this role.
"It has improved me as a person. I believe it's shown me that if I put my mind into something, I can get it done with ease," he said. "It's helped me make many friends. It's helped me establish many good relationships. It's done a lot."
Throughout his FFA career, Grigg has participated in public speaking events, livestock judging and archery. After graduating, he intends to continue working with Sullivan Supply and pursue a profession in business management.
