Fri, 05 Apr 2019 15:48:28 CDT
During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report is spotlighting the twenty Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA that are among the highest achievers in the organization. The stars come from the five areas in four categories- Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness and Star in Production Agriculture. This week, we spotlight the five area stars in Agricultural Placement for 2019. One Star Finalist featured in the coming days from each of the categories, will be named the State Star Award Winner during the Oklahoma State FFA Convention coming up April 30 - May 1, 2019 in Oklahoma City.
Today, we continue our coverage with this year's North East Area Star in Agriculture Placement, Bailee Nunes of the Collinsville FFA Chapter. Bailee has always been an animal lover and aspired to be in the medical field as a veterinarian. She is recognized for her work at a small animal veterinary clinic doing clinical assisting such as surgeries, boarding, and just about everything else. She's picked up surgery skills along the way, feeding, exercise, daily care, and medication responsibilites. Part of her responsibility is not only caring for the small animals, but their owners as well.
"I definitely had to learn people skills, sympathy, medicine, and animal temperment," said Nunes.
Bailee started FFA her 8th grade year doing speeches and pigs. She decided to chase her dream of being a vet by getting into a clinic and growing from there. The next stop on her path after graduation is the west coast.
"I'm travelling to northern California for a large animal intern to kind of establish whether I want to do small or large animal."
After her internship she plans to knock out her basics at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and transfer to Oklahoma State University for her Vet Med education.
