The newest member of the OSU Extension faculty, Dr. Amanda de Oliveria Silva brings a diverse background to the position of Extension small grains specialist that should benefit Oklahoma producers.
Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Editor Sam Knipp recently visited with Dr. Silva as she explained her journey to OSU and provided an update on the OSU wheat test plots.
"My interest in agriculture," is the succinct and brief explanation of the motivation Dr. Amanda de Oliveria Silva used to describe her long and varied path to Stillwater which took her from her native country of Brazil through stops in Indiana and Kansas.
She grew up around sugar cane fields but stressed the soil type and producer's goals are the same as she finds here in Oklahoma.
She said her goal is to educate Oklahoma farmers on new technology to help increase wheat yields.
As the spring weather warms Dr. Silva said the test plots are growing rapidly and she is excited to showcase the results during field days throughout the state in April and May.
