Lucas Statement After House Passes Coronavirus Package

Mon, 16 Mar 2020 08:01:42 CDT

Lucas Statement After House Passes Coronavirus Package Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6201- the Families First Coronavirus Response Act by a vote of 363-40.

The funding package, supported by Congressman Lucas, provides $2.5 billion in emergency supplemental funding, delivering free coronavirus testing, emergency paid leave, increases access to telehealth services, and flexibility for families and small businesses.

"Tonight, Congress took action to assure the nation that their government is committed to putting families first.

While this wasn't the first draft of the bill, I'm encouraged that lofty, political opportunism could be put aside in order for Congress and the Administration to provide for the health and financial well-being of the American people.

The emergency bill before the House delivers on our promise to ensure free testing, protect our communities' seniors and children, and provide flexibility for families and small businesses affected by the coronavirus.

By increasing testing and providing financial support for America's hard-working families, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act will protect the health and financial security of our nation as we fight this outbreak.

As Congress moves forward, continuing to keep a watchful eye on the health and fiscal needs of the country, we must remember that our first priority remains that of protecting the American people. From our nation's top health care leaders to our neighbors, we all have a part to play in flattening the cure of this pandemic."
