McPhail Land and Cattle Captured Champion Team Honors at the 2020 Oklahoma Cattlemen's Ranch Rodeo

Sun, 23 Aug 2020 14:16:31 CDT

McPhail Land and Cattle Captured Champion Team Honors at the 2020 Oklahoma Cattlemen's Ranch Rodeo McPhail Land and Cattle won champion team honors at the 36th Annual Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association (OCA) Ranch Rodeo. 2020 is the 7th year that the McPhails have participated in the event. The cowboys riding for McPhail Land and Cattle, headquartered out of Mountain Park, Okla. include Dayton McPhail, Dane McPhail, Dagan McPhail, Rowdy McFall, Darren Baker and Miles Baker. This win qualifies McPhail Land and Cattle to compete at the Working Ranch Cowboy Association National Finals this fall.

McPhail won the Saddle Bronc competition and Wild Cow Milking on their way to winning the overall Championship honors.

"While winning Champion honors is exciting, the OCA Ranch Rodeo is twelve teams of cowboys competing with one goal: to support the Children's Hospital Foundation (CHF)," said Weston Givens, Chairman of the OCA Ranch Rodeo Committee.

The OCA Ranch Rodeo has raised more than $531,000 for CHF since 1997, to help fund children's medical research and treatment for children right here at home in Oklahoma.

The winning team did not take home much more than bumps and bruises.

"The camaraderie among the ranch teams, paired with our mission 'Cowboys Helping Kids' makes participating worthwhile and enjoyable," said Givens. "Ranchers have a built-in instinct to care for others. We care for our land and animals and produce safe and nutritious food that nourishes people around the world. So, participating in this event to raise funds for the Children's Hospital Foundation is not only natural for the cowboys, but it's heartfelt."

The 2020 participating ranches include: Alfalfa County Land & Cattle, Cherokee, Okla.; Gray G Bar, Shidler, Okla.; Buford Ranches, LLC, Hominy, Okla.; Stuart Ranch, Waurika, Okla.; Drummond Land & Cattle Co., Pawhuska, Okla.; Hall Ranch & Daube Cattle Co., Comanche and Ardmore, Okla.; Treadwell Land & Cattle, Frederick, Okla.; Chain Ranch, Canton, Okla.; Lazy Rafter Slash Ranch, Lenapah, Okla.; Trentman Ranch, Pawhuska, Okla. and Stierwalt Ranch & Cattle, Co., Shidler, Okla.; Whitmire Ranch, Delaware, Okla.; and McPhail Land & Cattle, Mountain Park, Okla.

The Trentman Ranch and Stierwalt Ranch and Cattle Co. team was presented the reserve Champion honors, followed by the Gray G Bar Ranch in third.

The ranch teams competed in five events mirroring everyday ranch work on Friday and Saturday night.

The results for the Saddle Bronc Riding are: 1st McPhail Land and Cattle; 2nd Stuart Ranch; 3rd Chain Ranch. The results for the Stray Gathering are: 1st Gray G Bar Ranch; 2nd Trentman/Stierwalt; 3rd Stuart Ranch. The results for the Team Branding are: 1st Drummond Land and Cattle Company; 2nd McPhail Land and Cattle, 3rd Trentman/Stierwalt. Results for the Team Penning event are: 1st Whitmire Ranch; 2nd Stuart Ranch; 3rd Trentman/Stierwalt. Results for the Wild Cow Milking are: 1st McPhail Land and Cattle; 2nd Alfalfa Land and Cattle; 3rd Chain Ranch.

Three individual awards are given annually. Tanner McElyea, a member of the Buford Ranch Team was named the Tough Hand. Kevin Lawson of the Gray G Bar Ranch was named the Top Hand. Kevin was also recognized for riding the Top Horse, which he also won in 2019.

"We really appreciate the Oklahoma Ford Dealers for making this event possible since the first Ranch Rodeo back in 1985. Ford Trucks and cowboys have a few things in common, but the most obvious commonality is that they are both, 'built Ford tough'. Thank you to all of our other sponsors, the ranch teams who participated and the fans that came out to cheer them on," Givens said.
