Oklahoma Breeder Takes Supreme Open Bull Championship at Third Cattlemen's Congress

Oklahoma Breeder Takes Supreme Open Bull Championship at Third Cattlemen's Congress After ten days of showing some of the finest cattle with the very best genetics to be found in the US Beef Cattle Herd- the 2023 set of Supreme Champions were selected on Tuesday evening at the Third Cattlemen's Congress. That included the Supreme Junior Female, Supreme Open Female and Supreme Open Bull as the best of more than twenty breed champions in each category was selected literally by committee at the third Cattlemen's Congress in Oklahoma City. In each case, the judges described the drives as extremely competitive and in the Supreme Bull competition as a set of animals that exhibit "stoutness in bulls, masculinity but above all, bulls that will get out and travel and are structurally sound."   

Opening up the evening in the Jim Norick Arena at the OKC Fairgrounds, over two dozen Junior Female Champions were led into the arena- and after the initial group was reduced to ten by the judges- the Simmental Junior Female Breed Champion was called Supreme- 4/B Miss Honey Butter 08J, owned by Sara Sullivan of Dunlop, Iowa won a $2,500 scholarship and more. The Reseve Supreme Champion in the Junior Female category was the Polled Hereford- Hawk Myl 39J ET that was shown by Paige Lemenager of Hudson, Illinois.

Next were the top breed champions in the Open Female (Heifer) division. The same process narrowed the breed champions down to a handful- and for the second year in a row- the Angus Open Female Breed Champion was declared the Cattlemen's Congress Supreme Champion for 2023. The Angus champ, Conley FRKG Queen Meg 1085 was shown by Houston Ferree of Sullivan, Indiana. The Supreme Open Female won the top prize of the evening- a year lease for a Ford F-250 Pickup provided by Seminole Ford. The Reserve Supreme Open Female was the Percentage Simmental Breed Champion- shown by CIrcle M Farms and Rocking P Livestock of Maysville, Kentucky.

Finally, the Supreme Open Bull lineup had twenty five Breed Champions eligible- and an Oklahoma breeder came away with the honor of Supreme Open Bull Champion for 2023- Pembroke Cattle Company and Jackson Bragg of Fairview, Oklahoma claimed top honors with their Red Angus Breed Champion. The Supreme Champion bull is aptly named "Red Diamond El Rey" and earned for his honors the bragging rights of being the only Supreme Champion Open Bull in America- and a John Deere Gator provided by P&K Equipment.

The Reserve Supreme Bull was the Shorthorn Plus entrant- and was exhibited by Schaffer Show Cattle of Hagerstown, Indiana.


The American Supreme drive in the same three categories will be held Thursday afternoon at 4 PM.
