Thu, 12 Jan 2023 21:05:31 CST

The second round of Supremes being selected at Cattlemen's Congress was for the American Breeds that were shown and were a part of the third Cattlemen's Congress- from Texas Longhorns that were shown on the first day the show to Brahmans shown earlier on Thursday.

The opening round was for the American Supreme Junior Female, with the Champion Beefmaster taking the Supreme Champion title- shown by Lane Hagan of Yoacham, Texas. Hagan earned a $2,500 Scholarship for his Beefmaster heifer, Ellis Jazz. The Reserve Supreme Junior Female was Black Brangus Champion- shown by Railee Steele of Lake Butler, Florida.

Next up was the drive for the American Supreme Female with the judges picking the Grey Brahman- Miss V8 279/9- owned and shown by V8 Ranch out of Boling, Texas. The Reserve American Supreme Heifer was the Simbrah- owned by Miranda Skaggs of Bryan, Texas. Jim Williams, owner of V8 Ranch, was awarded a John Deere Gator donated by P&K Equipment for winning the American Supreme Female Championship.

Finally- the finale came with the 10 American Bull Champions that were competing in the Jim Norick Arena for the American Supreme Bull Championship. The three judges really fell in love wiith the Black Brangus Bull Breed Champion- with two of them picking him number one and the other number two. That made 6B JOHN BOY 804J10 shown by Eris Basey of Florence, Texas the third and final Supreme Champion of the evening- Basey also winning a John Deere Gator from P&K Equipment to commemorate his Supreme Championship. The Reserve American Supreme Champion Bull was owned by V8 Ranch- as the mother breed of most of the other breeds showing this evening- the Grey Brahman- was again honored- this Bull owned by V8 Ranch, MR. V8 891/8, took the Reserve American Supreme title.

After the American Supreme drive, Oklahoma Farm Report's KC Sheperd talked with Jim Williams of the V8 Ranch of south Texas about his big day at Cattlemen's Congress as he about having one of his Brahmans selected in both the Open Female and Bull American Supreme classes. Of his Supreme Champion Open Female- he took Sheperd that she showed as Pair- with a bull calf at side- "she's already producing, has a nice udder and as the judge said, she has a lot of balance. She's a female who is square on her feet and legs- very feminine and refined- good length of body" adding she is a "really good example of a good docile American Barhman female."

Listen to KC and Jim Williams talk about his winning Grey Brahman cattle at the American Supreme Drive at the third Cattlemen's Congress on Thursday evening at the OKC Fairgrounds.

With the breed shows now complete- the 2023 Cattlemen's Congress showcased 28 breeds of Beef Cattle from 42 states and 4 Canadian provinces. Over 2,200 exhibitors came to the 2023 show and competed with over 10,000 cattle since December 31st. The sales of live animals and frozen genetics were tremendous again in 2023, with 24 total sales at the OKC Fairgrounds and at several other venues in the metro area grossing over $10 million, which does not include the many sales that were concluded by private treaty in the barns in the last two weeks.

Earlier this week on Tuesday, the British and European breed Supreme drive was held- click here to jump to our earlier story of those champions selected.

The Fourth Cattlemen's Congress will be held December 30th through January 12, 2024 at the OKC Fairgrounds.
