Irish Vegetable Farm Showcases Customer Service Efforts as OALP Visits Operation

Waterfall Farms is a family owned and operated farm near Cork in southern Ireland- and owner Dexter Martin and son Nigel greeted members of the Oklahoma Ag Leadership Program on their final Saturday in Scotland and Ireland with details of their commercial vegetable farm operation. The Martins raise about ten different vegetables in the mild climate that they find themselves located in- just a few miles off the southwestern coast of Ireland- under the tempering influence of the Gulf Stream.
Among the vegetables they grow are carrots, turnips, potatoes, onions and parsnips. They also grow, on a seasonal basis, lettuce, starting it from seed in plastic "tubes" or greenhouses. Martin is fanatical about quality and offers a level of service to his customers that is second to none- even in the face of extremely strong price competition from chain stores like Aldi's. He tells us he is optimistic that the concept he has built with his wife and now two sons is a model that has a great future.
