Ron Hays and Don Close of Rabo AgriFinance Talk Shock Waves to the Beef Sector From COVID-19

Tue, 14 Apr 2020 17:04:09 CDT

Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays had the opportunity to sit down on the long line and talk about where the beef cattle industry sector stands after several weeks of continuous shocks that have been delivered by the corornavirus with Don Close, Senior Vice President of Food and Ag Research, Animal Protein at Rabo AgriFinance.

Close tells Hays that these multiple shocks to the beef sector is the worst he has seen since the Richard Nixon Price Freeze in the 1970s. He believes that the intital price drops that hit the industry were a Phase One Shock- but a Phase Two Shock is now sweeping across the sector with the uncertainty of the packing plants and processing facilities having labor problems with coronavirus infection.
