For the second year in a row- Oklahoma is the home of the National Champion in the Prepared Public Speech Contest at the 2011 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. Last year- it was Tara Newton of the Kingfisher FFA Chapter- here in 2011, it's Kaylen Baker, a Senior at Yukon High School and the President of her Yukon FFA Chapter.
Baker spoke on the topic Miniature Cattle. She developed her original speech and did the research needed to defend her comments in a period of questions after the speech was delivered. The national FFA has this brief description of the contest- "During the Prepared Public Speaking CDE, students write and deliver a six- to eight-minute speech about a current agriculture-related topic. The speaking skills gained through this event help students excel in school, community and career settings."
We spoke with Kaylen after she was awarded the championship Friday night on the stage of the 84th Annual Convention. Click on the LISTEN BAR below to hear our visit with her.
A few days before the national convention, we did a Youtube video with Kaylen as she prepared for Indianapolis- click here to see that conversation with this impressive young lady.
