With COOL- We are on thin ice in trade dealings with Canada and Mexico
Thu, 29 Jan 2009 11:55:07 CSTIt has been-and continues to be- a very tough time to be in the feedlot end of the beef cattle business. And Randy Blach, Chief Executive Officer of the Cattlefax organization, talked about that during his part of the Cattlefax Annual Outlook Seminar that took place during the Cattle Industry Convention in Phoenix on Thursday.
After the Seminar, we caught up with Blach and did a joint debriefing with Bob Burgdorfer with Reuters of Randy on some of the key points raised during the Seminar- some of the topics we talked with Blach about included the tremendous amount of red ink flowing like a river through our feedlots, the danger of COOL damaging our trade with Canada and Mexico, the potential of Japan as a customer if we could jump them to beef from animals 30 months of age or less- and a special word aimed at cow-calf producers as they figure out how to survive in 2009.
