From the Cattlefax Market Outlook Seminar- Feed Grains
Thu, 29 Jan 2009 12:42:01 CST
One of the annual highlights of the Cattle Industry Convention is the annual Cattlefax Market Outlook Seminar- and here in Phoenix, the room was standing room only as the Cattlefax team talked about the various aspects of the marketplace.
One of the players was Mike Murphy, who talked about the feed grain outlook as it relates back to the beef cattle business. Murphy told cattle producers that he thinks there will be another competition for acres this spring between mostly corn and soybeans. He thinks the sixty day window after about March first is when we will see a lot of decisions made as to which crop farmers will be growing in 2009.
Murphy says Cattlefax sees a price range- bottom to top, for corn will be from $3.25 to $4.85, well under 2009 but significantly above 2007. Murphy adds that he sees an annual average corn price for 2009 of $3.90, compared to $5.27 in 2008 and $3.74 in 2007.
