Democrat Hoffmeister a No Show to Answer Questions from Rural Oklahoma
|
Governor Kevin Stitt participated in the Governors Forum on Agriculture on Wednesday- hosted by the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association and the Oklahoma Farm Bureau in Lawton, Okla.
Gov. Stitt confirmed his participation for this free, public event several weeks ago, while the Democratic nominee chose to not attend and be questioned on-the-record by moderator Ron Hays about her plan to advance the well being of rural Oklahoma.
“When Joy Hofmeister couldn’t see a path forward for her personal political career in the Republican party, she joined Joe Biden’s Democrat party,” said Gov. Stitt as he addressed the critical role a governor provides of appointing hundreds of Oklahomans to agencies and board seats. “A vote for Hofmeister is a vote for Drew Edmondson as the next Secretary of Agriculture.”
The two groups that organized the Forum asked me to moderate the Forum- and you can hear the complete conversation that we had with the GOP nominee for Governor- incumbent Kevin Stitt- it's our latest Episode on our podcast series- the Road to Rural Prosperity.

Third "Beef. It's What's For Dinner 300" Promotes the Beef Industry on a National Level
|
This February, on the opening weekend of NASCAR, ahead of the Daytona 500, the third Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. 300 NASCAR race will take place in Daytona Beach, Florida. In this episode of Beef Buzz, I am visiting with the Director of Beef Marketing and Promotion at the Florida Beef Council, Deann Maples, about the Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. 300 NASCAR race and how it came to fruition.
“Anytime you are looking for new ways to connect with consumers, this was an area that we had never played in before, but I certainly knew the sport and recognized these are our customers, and these are people who love beef,” Maples said.
The Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. 300, Maples said, gives the Beef Council the opportunity to connect with consumers in the beef industry and show their appreciation for them. The race allows for the Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner. to be promoted on national television.
Whether producers are a fan of NASCAR or not, Maples said the event has been a hit because producers enjoy seeing their brand attached to something.
“They have come out; they have helped us on the ground,” Maples said. “So yeah, we have seen great impressions, but we have also just had the contact on the ground that has just been awesome too.”
Maples also talks with us about her working with Oklahoma Beef Council's Heather Buckmaster and then officer of the Federation of State Beef Council's Clay Burtrum of Stillwater- saying Clay, who's a fan of NASCAR, was a key player in winning over other beef producers and State Beef Council execs who were less familiar with the unique NASCAR brand and the millions of fans who are loyal beef eaters.

Oklahoma Ag Expo Coming up November 7-9 in Norman, Oklahoma
|
Associate Farm Editor, Reagan Calk, got the chance to visit with the Oklahoma Grain and Feed Association’s Director of Communications and Special Events, Ashley Tucker, and the Director of Member Services, Tammy Ford-Miller, about the upcoming Oklahoma Ag Expo, which will be held on November 7-9 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Hotel and Conference Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Ag Expo, Tucker said, is put on by the Oklahoma Grain and Feed Association and the Oklahoma Agribusiness Retailers Association each year. This year’s expo will feature a golf tournament, a trade show, a silent auction, many guest speakers, and allow visitors to obtain Continuing Education Units for Certified Crop Advisors.
“We pride ourselves in being able to create an event that reaches a lot of different individuals in the industry,” Tucker said.
Tucker said the event will kick off with a golf tournament on Monday, November 7. After the tournament, Tucker said individuals will have the opportunity to register and take some fumigation courses.
To register for the golf tournament, Tucker said visitors can visit oklahomaag.com.
“That golf tournament is for scholarships,” Tucker said. “We see the importance in investing in our young people who want to invest and have a career in agriculture, so that is what those golf funds will be for.”
The expo and trade show, Tucker said, will become live on Tuesday, November 8. The expo will feature many different speakers who will present information on pest management, storage and transportation of fumigants, pollinators, disease management, and more.

Unwanted Pesticide Disposal Events Set for Woodward and Muskogee
|
Oklahoma State University’s Pesticide Safety Education Program is partnering with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry to host two unwanted pesticide disposal days in Woodward on Nov. 16 and Muskogee on Nov. 17.
The Oklahoma Unwanted Pesticide Disposal Program events will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Woodward County Fairgrounds, 108 Temple Houston Dr., in Woodward, and the Muskogee County Fairgrounds, 1440 S. Cherokee, in Muskogee.
Farmers, ranchers, applicators, pesticide dealers and homeowners may bring up to 2,000 pounds of pesticides to the drop-off sites for proper disposal at no charge. A fee is required if bringing more than 2,000 pounds of pesticides.
ODAFF has contracted with Clean Earth, a licensed hazardous waste company, to collect and properly dispose of waste pesticides. Pesticide dealers are asked to preregister through the OSU Pesticide Safety Education Program because of the potential for large quantities of pesticides coming in from multiple dealers. Applicators and agricultural producers are not required to preregister. Paint, batteries, oil or fertilizer will not be accepted.

OACD Presents Short Film on their Conservation Agriculture Reach Everyone Program
|
The Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts is proud to share a new short film on their Conservation Agriculture Reach Everyone program. OACD, The Oklahoma Black Historical Research Project (OBHRPI) and Texas Agriforestry small farmers and ranchers are partnering to increase participation of NRCS programs in agriculture and conservation among socially disadvantaged and veteran farmers and ranchers.
The purpose is to increase the number of farmers / ranchers participating in conservation planning and programs in order to improve soil health, water quality and the viability of working lands. The CARE project places an emphasis on assisting socially disadvantaged and veteran farmers/ranchers. Working with this targeted group to expand their knowledge of innovative technology, soil health and invasive species eradication will assist them in sustaining their farms. The project will build the capacity of participating organizations to develop and implement conservation projects and strengthen the technical capacity of conservation districts to assist in both conservation planning and Farm Bill Conservation Programs.
Our goal is to raise $500,000 to regenerate 7153 acres across Oklahoma.
