NCBA Looking to Be Leaner and Meaner in its Organizational Makeup

Thu, 28 Jan 2010 11:50:17 CST

One of the co-chairs of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association GovernanceTask Force, Jan Lyons of Manhatten, Kansas visited with us on Thursday morning here in San Antonio at the 2010 Cattle Industry Convention. We talked about the discussions here at the meeting about the Task Force recommendation to greatly downside the Board of Directors of the NCBA- and to put in place more cooperation between the Federation and Policy sides of the industry on issues management. Lyons adds this comes without sacrificing any of the needed firewall between checkoff spending and policy activity.

She talks with us about some of the complaints against the plan being raised by groups like R-Calf USA as well as giving us a feel of the timeline if the recommendation is approved by the organization on Saturday.

Click on the Listen Bar below to hear our conversation with Jan about this significant change in how the NCBA may be structured in the days ahead.
