For this weekend's SUNUP TV Program that will be seen on OETA Saturday morning, Oklahoma State University Extension Grain Marketing Economist Dr. Kim Anderson offers a tutorial on the "funds" that trade in today's agricultural commodity markets.
Dr. Anderson tells Austin Moore with SUNUP that there are several different types of funds that have participated in the agricultural markets- including the hedge funds, the index funds and the managed funds.
Adnerson says the market experts are divided on whether the funds have had a good or bad effect on the markets. He says you can point to their entrance into the wheat market as one of the keys to higher wheat prices at several points in recent years. As a result, he tells wheat producers that you have to pay attention to when the various types of funds are entering into the ag markets, as that will possibly inject an upward push on the prices of that ag commodity.
You can watch Austin and Kim discuss this subject on Saturday morning- or you can listen to it right now by clicking on the LISTEN BAR below.
Besides the Kim Anderson lesson on the ag futures markets and the funds- here's the rest of the lineup for this week's edition of SUNUP from the OSU Ag Communications Department.
This week on SUNUP, another look at a favorite episode, featuring Shop Stop's Randy Taylor and a lesson on rebuilding a pasture sprayer.
In Cow-Calf Corner, Glenn Selk discusses supplements for winter grazing cattle.
And finally, a memorial tribute to the late Dr. BrentWesterman, Senior Director of the Field and Research Service Unit.
