Five Rivers CEO Excited About Age and Source Verification for Beef Export Sales

Mike Thoren is the President and CEO of JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeders LLC- and our guest the next several days on the Beef Buzz. We are talking about where the cattle feeding business has been, where it is today and where it may be going with this key player in this segment of the beef cattle industry.

Thoren was on campus at Oklahoma State University this past week as the featured speaker of the Totusek Lectureship. Thoren has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeding LLC since the Company’s inception. From 2003 until 2005, Thoren was the President and CEO of ContiBeef LLC, a former wholly owned subsidiary of Continental Grain Company.

He began his career with the Cattle Feeding Division of Continental Grain Company in 1991 and worked his way up through the Company as feedyard general manager, director of feedlot operations, vice president of operations, and CEO. Thoren received his bachelor’s in agribusiness and his master’s in agricultural economics from Washington State University.

In part two of our conversation with Mike Thoren- we talk about value added cattle and where the opportunities are. He thinks some of the more exciting chances to get more value for the beef we produce lies overseas- and we discuss the concept of source and age verification for cattle.

Thoren continues as our guest on the Beef Buzz- click on the LISTEN BAR below to hear the Tuesday November 9, 2010 edition of the Beef Buzz. And you can click here for the Monday Beef Buzz- also with Mike Thoren- as we began our discussion of the cattle feeding business today versus just a few years a

The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the state on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well. Click on the listen bar below for today's show- and check out our archives for older Beef Buzz shows covering the gamut of the beef cattle industry today.
