OSU's Dr. Kim Anderson says Wheat Market Holds Good News for Hard Red Winter Wheat- and we have your SUNUP preview
Thu, 18 Aug 2011 16:48:52 CDT
Dr. Kim Anderson, Grain Marketing Specialist from Oklahoma State University says the big news in the wheat market over the past couple of days is the increase in wheat price, which means the market is lowering their expectations for spring wheat production. Anderson says this is good news for hard red winter wheat because it means there is less high protein wheat to blend with lower quality wheats.
When it comes to the world marketplace, Anderson believes the current situation is holding back U.S. wheat prices. Russia and Ukraine are still determined to become major exporters in the wheat market. Anderson says analysts that he have talked with are lowering their projections for U.S. exports and the demand for U.S. wheat will probably lower on the export market.
The drought is still causing problems for wheat farmers across Oklahoma. While producers are usually fertilizing right now, Anderson says many producers are holding back on that right now until they get some rain, especially in southern and western Oklahoma. Anderson's final piece of advice for producers, if you have wheat in storage, hold onto it a little while longer.
