Ag Chairman Frank Lucas Speaks to House Floor about Panama Trade Agreement
Wed, 12 Oct 2011 15:10:28 CDT
As the free trade agreements with Panama, Colombia and South Korea were presented in U.S. House of Representatives today, Ag Committee Chairman Frank Lucas stood up to speak his part on behalf of the trade agreements and their benefits to the U.S. and Oklahoma. The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on the three free trade agreements this afternoon.
Chairman Lucas pointed out that agriculture exports support more than 10 thousand jobs in Oklahoma. And across the country, agriculture exports support about 1 million jobs total. Lucas also adds that for every $1.00 in farm products that the U.S. exports, we add another $1.31 to our economy from those non-farm industries.
Lucas also stated the fact that more than 99% of Panama's current exports enter the U.S. duty-free. So this agreement will not only create new opportunities for America's farmers and ranchers, but it also levels the playing field for exporters says Lucas.
