Behind the Action in the Showring- We Talk with OALE Member Haley Baumgardner

There is a relatively small full time staff that operates the Oklahoma Youth Expo- and they are supported by a large number of volunteers who, in many cases, have dedicated years of service to the junior livestock show. Supplementing the paid staff and the volunteers is the youthful enthusiasm of a group of Oklahoma State University students that are a part of what is known as the Oklahoma Ag Leadership Encounter.
These OSU students, all either juniors or seniors in the Division of Agriculture, are selected in late summer of the year they will participate. As a class, they visit all four corners of the state, the state Capitol in Oklahoma City, Washington, DC and as a capstone to the experience- an international trip in June to conclude their year. In March of their year in the OALE- they serve as "staff" for the OYE under the supervision of the full time staff of the show.
The 2012 OYE is being supported by Class nine of the program- and they have eleven men and ladies who want to make a difference in the world of agriculture. Click here to see a list of those students who are a part of the OALE- and more about their mission.
One of the members of Class nine is Haley Baumgardner, who is from Carrier, Oklahoma. Haley is a senior at OSU this spring- and took the time to set down and visit with Ron Hays about her perspectives of the Oklahoma Youth Expo- both as an exhibitor growing up in Oklahoma- and now as one of those helping run the big show.
Baumgardner will be Ron's guest on Saturday morning during his regular In the Field segment that is seen on KWTV, News9 in Oklahoma City. The segment is normally aired around 6:40 AM.
