Noble Foundation Workshop Helps Producers Maintain Healthy Ponds
Fri, 25 May 2012 13:22:54 CDT
A healthy pond can be a significant asset to any farming or ranching operation, but maintaining it requires appropriate knowledge and effort.
To help resource managers maximize their aquatic resources, The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation will host a Pond Management Workshop from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, at the Noble Foundation Pavilion (located at 2510 Sam Noble Parkway, Ardmore, Okla., 73401).
The workshop emphasizes pond and lake management for sport fishing. It will feature sessions on:
· Designing and constructing impoundments.
· Water quality.
· Fish identification, ecology and stocking.
· Management of existing fisheries.
· Aquatic plant identification and management.
"Considerable misunderstanding and misinformation exists regarding ponds, which results in mismanagement of this valuable resource," said Mike Porter, Noble Foundation wildlife and fisheries consultant. "This workshop is an excellent opportunity for people to learn how to properly manage and utilize their ponds or lakes to benefit their overall operation."
Noble Foundation wildlife and fisheries consultants also will briefly discuss management considerations for livestock water and attracting waterfowl. There will also be a pond tour with management demonstrations. Consultants will be on hand to address participant questions.
Registration fee is $20, and the cost includes dinner and a pond management publications CD. To register for the workshop, please contact Tracy Cumbie at 580.224.6292, or register online by clicking here.
