In this week's beef report with Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office in Amarillo, Texas, we saw the choice cut market end the week of August 17, 2012, climbing $8.00 to $193.00 cwt but with a very low volume of 731 loads, which was the lowest volume all year. The total boxed beef volume for all cuts was also low last week at 6,549 loads.
The general trend in the finished cattle trade was $1.00 to $2.00 higher at $120 to $121 cwt with dressed prices at $190 to $191.50 cwt.
The harvest weights last week were unchanged at 1,269 pounds.
