Rain Comes- Burn Bans Go- Here are the Latest Maps
Fri, 28 Sep 2012 05:47:37 CDT
Rainfall totals have been significant across a lot of Oklahoma, with just a few locations missing most of the rain. Most of those locations are in eastern counties of the state, although the amount of rain as of early Friday morning has been light in Alfalfa, Grant and Kay counties in north central Oklahoma, as well as in Major County in the northwestern quarter of the state. The Panhandle has been receiving rain overnight, helping rainfall totals in those three counties. The graphic above shows rain over the last three days as of 5:30 this morning.
Rainfall totals have been impressive enough to catch the attention of the state of Oklahoma folks who advise Governor Fallin on the Burn Bans that have been in place across the state. Due to those recent rains, Governor Mary Fallin signed a proclamation on Thursday removing 22 counties from the Governor's Burn Ban, effective immediately. Thirty-three counties remain under a state-issued burn ban and another three counties are under county commissioner bans. Click here for the Burn Ban site on the Oklahoma Department of Ag's website.
"The long term forecast shows continued drought conditions through much of the state where the ban remains in effect, but the risk of wildfire has lessened in several areas, allowing us to reduce the burn ban coverage," said Fallin. "We are hopeful that rains will continue across the state to allow further reduction of the ban."
Counties to remain under the Governor proclaimed burn ban are: Beaver, Beckham, Carter, Cimarron, Comanche, Cotton, Ellis, Garfield, Garvin, Greer, Harmon, Harper, Haskell, Jackson, Jefferson, Kay, Kiowa, Latimer, Le Flore, Love, McCurtain, Murray, Noble, Osage, Pawnee, Payne, Pontotoc, Stephens, Texas, Tillman, Washita, Woods and Woodward. County Commissioner bans are in effect for Creek, McClain and Pittsburg counties.
The graphic below shows the latest Burn Ban map of the state, as of Thursday afternoon, September 27, 2012.
