Oklahoma FFA Still Alive for Yet Another National Prepared Public Speaking Winner- Our Thursday Morning Update

Howdy Neighbors- good morning to you- we are reporting from the 85th annual convention of the National FFA organization- Wednesday proved to be a good day for Oklahoma FFA members here in Indianapolis- We have recorded our Thursday morning thoughts and you can hear them by clicking on the LISTEN BAR at the bottom of this story-

Some of the Highlights-

Tanner Allread of Union City wins his two preliminary rounds- and is now in the National Finals of the Prepared Public Speaking Contest- 9 AM Thursday. This is the fourth year in a row that an Oklahoma FFA member will be in the finals. In fact, the last three years- Oklahoma has WON the National Prepared Public Speaking Contest. (our picture here is of Tanner and his FFA Advisor Emily Hogland.)

Kaylen Baker of Yukon won the National Contest in 2011-Click here for our story with Kaylen Baker after she was announced as the 2011 National Public Speaking winner. Two years ago- it was Tara Newton of Kingfisher who also won the National contest- click here for our story after Tara spoke here in Indy at the National Finals. Three years ago- it was McKenzie Walta of Kingfisher who served up Green Eggs and Ham to the judges and they loved it- making her the National Public Speaking Contest Winner in 2010- click here for our story that we did with her after the national finals here in Indy.

Seth Paxton of Tuttle wins his first round in the Extemporaneous Speaking, but does not advance to the finals.

The Ag Issues Team from Kingfisher FFA wins their first round and will compete again today in that national contest. The seven members include Jami Adams, Blake Cameron, Page Helms, Caitlyn Minton, Jason Murray, Jessie Phillips and Maegan Yost.

Marty Jones of Owasso FFA continues his quest as a national officer candidate- as he was involved in a couple of sessions with the Nominating Committee. Marty is up against five other FFA members in the Central Region where Oklahoma is now located- one, two or conceivably three of those six could be named as a part of the six member National Officer team for 2012-2013. Click here for our earlier conversation with Marty about his desire to be a national officer.

We have added a few more pictures to our national convention collection- Click here for our FLICKR set of National Convention photos for 2012.

Our exclusive coverage from the 2012 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis is a service of the Oklahoma FFA Association and the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association.
