In this week's beef report with Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office in Amarillo, Texas, the choice cut market ended the week of January 12, 2013 at $194.24 which was within .02 of the previous week. The total boxed beef volume moved was 7,143 loads, over 1,400 loads more than the previous week. It was a return to a more normal trade after the holidays. The average boxed beef loads for 2012 was 6,600 loads per week.
The general trend in the finished cattle trade was mostly $2.00 lower at $126.00 cwt. Sales earlier in the week were steady. The dressed sales also declined as the week went on to mostly $202 to $205.00 cwt.
The average live weight from the cattle harvested in the Texas Panhandle was 1,278, four pounds less than the previous week, but this has been a normal, seasonal decline.
