According to the latest crop weather update- Condition ratings for all small grains and canola continued to improve. Wheat, rye and oats were rated mostly good to fair, while canola was rated mostly fair to poor. Wheat jointing was 31 percent complete by Sunday, on track with the five- year average.
As a part of our WheatWatch2013 series- we got out to the wheat fields we have been watching in northeastern Canadian County- and the picture above shows that this field is indeed at the jointing stage. The two fields was have been checking were able to get a decent stand before winter set in and have responded well to the rains received in the last month or so. However, it has been dry since the first of March- and the picture above does show the crust of the soil looking dry.
WheatWatch2013 is a service of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission- click here for their website to learn more about how they are working hard for the Oklahoma wheat producer.
The pictures below are of the same field- and are stacked as pictures most recent backwards to last fall. The picture above as well as the first one below were taken Monday, March 18, 2013. The next picture down was taken on January 8, 2013 of the same field looking in the same direction.
The next picture down was taken of the same Canadian County field on November 22, 2012 and the bottom picture is of the same field on October 16, 2012- soon after the wheat in this field had emerged and was beginning to establish a stand.
