Daily Spot Choice Boxed Beef Cutout Continues Downward Slide

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week at 188.22, which was $2.31 lower. Volume was only 812 loads for the weekly total of the daily spot load count was about 12 percent of the total boxed beef sales for the week.
The Comprehensive Choice cutout, choice is the weekly average of all types of sales (including the spot trade, formula trade, export sales and out-front sales) were at $190.71, choice was $2.89 lower than last week.
The total reported Box Beef volume was 6,857 loads choice was 380 loads more than last week. The formula trade was 3,273 loads for the week choice was 109 loads more than last week and about 48% of the total sales.
The out-front sales were 1,191 loads which was 65 loads less than last week. Exports reported 949 loads which was 138 loads more than the previous week. The NAFTA exports represented 391 of those loads and 558 loads were shipped overseas.
The most recent 10 week rolling Boxed Beef sales average was 7,145 loads per week choice compares to 7,410 loads per week last year at this same time and was only 265 loads less than last year average.
The Primal cut trade portion of the spot trade was uneven with small increases on most cuts but up to 17 lower on the loin. The outside primal cuts (Rounds and Chucks) prices were steady to $3 higher. The inside primal cuts the Loin and Rib were mixed with Ribs and the Select Loins were $4 to $14 except select ribs which were steady.
The only saving grace last week was the price paid for 50 percent trimmings which went from the high 80s in early June to about $110 last week.
