Quarter Horse World Show Comes to Oklahoma City
There are 17 recognized colors of the American Quarter Horse. Undoubtedly each color will be represented as 2,021 horses will be exhibited during the American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show in Oklahoma City. For 14 days the AQHA World Show will descend upon State Fair Park for what is known as the pinnacle event for American Quarter Horse owners and exhibitors from around the world.

This year marks 40 years of the AQHA World Show. Truly a world show, exhibitors from United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Mexico and the United Kingdom are competing for 98 world championships. This year's purse is more than $2.4 million. According to the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, the show has an economic impact of more than $17.9 million for the Oklahoma City-area.

Setting it apart from other horse shows, the AQHA World Show features a variety of classes including ranch sorting, ranch pleasure and senior trail. This year, for the first time ever, the show will feature a Para-Reining clinic and demonstration class. Para-Reining allows equestrians with disabilities an opportunity to compete. This class launches the effort to make disability disciplines like Para-Reining to a fully recognized sport in 2014. The educational seminar is set for Nov. 14 and the Para-Reining demonstration class set for Nov. 15, both at State Fair Park.

In addition to the diverse classes, the show's tradeshow is also an attraction for visitors. The tradeshow hosts a variety of vendors who feature horse show accessories like tack and saddles as well as holiday decorations, clothing and jewelry.

The show runs through Friday, Nov. 22. For more information about the AQHA World Show including a full schedule, visit www.aqha.com/worldshow.
