Feeder Cattle Narrative Report for 01/12/2015

Actual Receipts: 9321     Last Monday: 5903    Year Ago Monday: 13,504

Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 5.00-10.00 lower, with instances of 10.00-15.00 lower on steers over 900 lbs. Calves lightly tested. Few steer and heifer calves mostly 8.00-12.00 lower with 500-550 lbs steers and 500-600 lb heifers mostly weak. Demand moderate following the sharp declines in the cattle futures last week. Cattle buyers are cautiously watching the futures with the CME expanding the trading limits on Live Cattle contracts to 4.50, and on Feeder Cattle contracts to 6.75. Quality plain thru attractive. Several heavy weight cattle available with some cattle coming off of early wheat pasture. Supply includes 81 percent over 600 lbs, 29 percent heifers.
