Tom Buchanan Leads Oklahoma Farm Bureau Delegation in San Diego at 2015 AFBF
Sun, 11 Jan 2015 15:13:39 CST
Jackson County farmer Tom Buchanan is leading a delegation of about sixty Oklahoma Farm Bureau members in San Diego at the 2015 annual Convention of the American Farm Bureau Federation. The President of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau greeted the delegation at a Saturday evening reception and then carried the Oklahoma Flag during the opening general session of the gathering of the nation's largest general farm organization.
Buchanan talked with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network's Ron Hays in San Diego about the priorities that he sees being discussed during the delegate session that begins on Tuesday morning. He believes that delegates will affirm the group's desire to see the 2014 Farm Law continue to be implemented in a timely fashion- and that the gains achieved during the 2014 Farm Bill process are protected in 2015 and beyond as opponents of farm policy hope to cut back on funding of farm policy through the Appropriations process.
Regulatory issues are also very important to the Oklahoma delegation- Buchanan saying that the Waters of the US proposed rule that has been advanced by EPA needs to be derailed and that "we know that this is a private property rights issue and it needs to be stopped."
Buchanan says that he is delighted that the Oklahoma contestants in several Young Farmer and Rancher events have advanced in their initial round of competition- and he says they are making Oklahoma proud.
