Twelve Oklahoma Students Receive Sam Noble Scholarships

The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation announced the 2015 recipients of the Sam Noble Scholarships, awarding $143,750 in scholarships to 12 southern Oklahoma students.
Sam Noble Scholarships assist both undergraduate and graduate students studying in the fields of agriculture and technology. The 2015 Sam Noble Scholarship recipients are (name, classification, major and high school):
-- Seth Coffey, first-year graduate student, natural resource ecology and management, Davis.
-- Jackson Ferguson, junior, agribusiness, Soper.
-- Matthew Hardin, first-year technology student, electrical technology, Battiest.
-- Samantha Howe, freshman, animal science/biotechnology, Sulphur.
-- Grayson Kuehny, sophomore, agribusiness, Elmore City-Pernell.
-- Katie McCauley, second-year graduate student, plant and soil science, Waurika.
-- Elizabeth McReynolds, junior, agricultural economics, Haworth.
-- Cody Morris, first-year technology student, electrical/electronics technology, Battiest.
-- Matthew Rogers, first-year graduate student, biosystems engineering, Plainview.
-- Elijah Savage, first-year technology student, power distribution, Stratford.
-- Wyatt Shaw, sophomore, agricultural education and agricultural communications, Byng.
-- Amanda Upton, freshman, animal science, Pauls Valley.
"This scholarship is highly competitive, and the students worked diligently throughout their academic careers to earn the award," said Mary Kate Wilson, director of philanthropy, engagement and project management for the Noble Foundation. "We look forward to watching the students excel in their future endeavors and create a positive impact in the fields of agriculture and technology."
Agriculture undergraduate scholarships are $2,500 per semester for as many as nine semesters, and graduate awards are for $3,125 per semester for up to five semesters. Technology students receive scholarships of up to $1,875 per semester for two years.
Sam Noble, for whom the scholarships are named, bequeathed funding to establish the program in 1992. The first scholarships were awarded in 1999. To date, the Noble Foundation has awarded more than $2,505,750 to 188 students. "Mr. Noble's thoughtfulness has helped each of these students receive one of the most important tools for life an education," Wilson said, "It is remarkable how one man's generosity has forever changed so many lives."
Scholarship applications for the 2016 application period may be requested through the Noble Foundation website or by calling 580.224.6247. Agricultural scholarships are limited to students pursuing an agriculture-related degree at universities with a separate college or division of agriculture. Technology scholarship applicants must be attending or planning to attend Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee or OSU-Oklahoma City.
Applicants for the Sam Noble Scholarship must reside in one of the following southern Oklahoma counties: Atoka, Bryan, Carter, Choctaw, Coal, Garvin, Jefferson, Johnston, Love, Marshall, McCurtain, Murray, Pontotoc, Pushmataha or Stephens. An external committee selects the recipients.
