Wed, 24 Apr 2013 14:53:23 CDT
According to the Chairman of the House Ag Committee, Oklahoma Third District Congressman Frank Lucas, May 15th is a "go" when it comes to marking up a 2013 Five Year Farm Bill. Lucas, in an exclusive conversation with Farm Director Ron Hays, says that they will start with a "mark" that is largely the measure that passed the Committee in 2012. From there, it will be an open Committee process with any member of the Committee able to submit amendments to the legislation, debate will be allowed on each amendment with an open recorded vote planned on every amendment with the end result a bi-partisan farm bill that Chairman Lucas hopes will be able to stand the pressure of floor consideration after Committee passage.
He expects total savings from the final product approved by his committee to be approximately thirty eight billion dollars over a ten year period.
