From Commodity Classic 2015- Ron Hays talks with Val Docini, Administrator of the Farm Service Agency

Friday, February 27, 2015 is the final day that farmers may elect to make changes in their base acres in advance to electing their preferred farm program choice for the years 2014 forward. While USDA would prefer the final choice be made by close of business Friday, Val Docini of the Farm Service Agency of the USDA acknowledges that cannot be done- so FSA is getting around extending the deadline officially and instead advising farmers to call their FSA office, ask that their name be placed on a "register" that will allow them to have time with their FSA office, run scenarios related to their farm operation and decide if any base acreage changes are justified. But- farmers must call by close of business on Friday to get their name on that list.
Dolcini says it is too early to tell how they will handle the March 31st deadline of choosing either PLC or ARC- but did not rule out the possibility that a similar system may be put into place for that final choice as well.
Dolcini talked about these procedures and how farmers need to get off dead center and make their choices with Farm Director Ron Hays as they talked on the Trade Show floor of the 2015 Commodity Classic in Phoenix.
Besides these farm safety net choices- Dolcini said that ranchers who put their name on a list before the deadline for the Livestock Disaster Assistance program came and went are still coming into local FSA offices and signing up for especially Forage Disaster Coverage. Oklahoma was literally at the epicenter of signups for this Forage loss program, with close to a billion dollars being paid out to farmers and ranchers in Oklahoma since sign up began last April.
