Real Pork Strategy Campaign Launched To Help Consumers Understand Daily Challenges Faced By Pork Producers, Says okPORK's Roy Lee Lindsey
|
Telling the real story of everyday pork production is the focus of a new national pork strategy and it couldn’t come at a better time as the industry is struggling with the impact of COVID-19.
Radio Oklahoma Agriculture Network Associate Farm Director and Editor KC Sheperd recently interviewed Roy Lee Lindsey, executive director of okPORK, Oklahoma Pork Council as Lindsey addressed the new strategy and how it is helping pork producers.
The National Pork Board launched a new master-brand strategy called Real Pork celebrating pork and the people who bring it to the table in late August.
This is not an advertising campaign but rather a “let’s tell our story,” Lindsey said.
Let’s talk about the people who work on the farm every day, the care we give our animals and how we care for the natural resources, Lindsey said.
This Real Pork strategy takes our principles and incorporates them into everything we do, Lindsey said.
The big drive behind Real Pork is to connect consumers to information about where their bacon and pork chops come from, Lindsey said.
Real pork celebrates everything that’s real about pork, he said.

Beef Exports Are Valuable For U.S. Producers Says CattleFax's Randy Blach
|
U.S. beef exports are increasing and that translates into big dollars for producers says Randy Blach, CEO of CattleFax, a global leader in beef industry research, analysis and information.
Blach was a featured speaker at the recent Feeding Quality Forum sponsored by the Certified Angus Beef program.
Today we are at a situation that about 86 percent of our total beef product is consumed in the United States, Blach said.
But as we look to the future a whole chunk of the world population is outside of the U.S.
Global population is increasing at the rate of about 83 million people a year.
Exports are adding about $350 per head and we expect that number to increase in the coming years, he said.
China holds big potential and the U.S. is a major global supplier.
If we go back to 1990, we were exporting a small percentage of our meat production, Blach said.

Allendales Nationwide Producer Yield Survey Results
|
Allendale, Inc. a Chicago area agricultural commodity brokerage and analysis firm projected the US corn crop at 14.980 billion bushels and a soybean crop of 4.311 billion bushels.
The 31st annual Nationwide Producer Yield Survey was conducted from August 17 - 28. The surveys were conducted direct by our brokers as well as via our website and social media platforms.
These estimates were based on producer calculated yields in 27 states. Ample surveys gave us the numbers needed to project yields in 12 states. This covers 87% of corn production and 85% of soybean production. For this survey, the smaller states were assumed using USDA’s August 12 estimates. Harvested acres were assumed using USDA’s August 12 estimates.

Trump EPA Launches Office of Mountains, Deserts and Plains to Effectively Address Abandoned Mine Lands, Accelerate Cleanup Across the West
|
Today, at a press conference at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the creation of the Office of Mountains, Deserts and Plains located in EPA’s office in Lakewood, Colo. This western lands-focused office will address cross-cutting issues unique to the region, and more effectively leverage existing EPA staff, expertise and resources in hardrock mining cleanup.
“Thank you to Administrator Wheeler and Associate Deputy Administrator Benevento. The recognition that putting subject matter experts in the area that is affected by regulations and regulatory actions to work with state local and tribal governments achieves the best outcomes for public health and the environment. We are looking forward to continuing our partnership to restore valuable habitat and protect our natural resources,” said Oklahoma Secretary of Energy and Environment Ken Wagner.
“The West is a special place, with special environmental challenges deserving of its own office within EPA,” said EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler. “Under President Trump’s leadership, this new office will provide effective solutions, and achieve important milestones in the cleanup of hardrock mining Superfund sites in the American West as well as foster great partnerships with states, tribes and local communities. Done are the days of a one-size-fits-all approach to remediation.”
