Oklahoma Brings Home the Gold from 2008 National FFA Convention. The 2008 National FFA Convention confirmed what all of us in the state of Oklahoma have known all along- that FFA in the state of Oklahoma is very special! Oklahoma FFA Students hauled home more hardware than any other state in the union, as Oklahoma FFA can claim a National Officer, the Star Farmer of America, Six National Proficiency Awards, a National Agri- Entrepreneur Winner and several high finishes in the various judging contests.

From our coverage of the 2008 National FFA convention, here's a rundown and links to our stories about several of these outstanding Oklahomans:

Travis Schnaithman of the Garber FFA was named as the Star Farmer of America on Saturday morning- Click here for our story on Travis winning the Granddaddy of All National Awards at the 2008 Meeting.

Laila Hajii of the Guthrie FFA was selected as one of the six National Officers for 2008-2009- here's a link to our story from Friday including our interview with her before being named as a National Officer. On Saturday afternoon, our friend and colleague Dave Russell did a followup interview with her after that National Officer candidate- click here for this Saturday reaction from Laila.

The Six National Proficiency Award Winners include (Click on their name for the story and interview we conducted with them in Indy):

Kellie Whipple of Alva, Wildlife Production and Management- Placement

Sage Shoulders of Oilton, Equine Science

Kailin Jenkiins of Stillwater- Diversified Livestock- Placement

Rashele Blakeley of Oologah- Nursery Operations

Tyler Schafer of Lomega- Dairy Production

Nicole Folger of Burlington- Ag Education

Here is a story that we did on Chase Kokojan of Drummond, who did win National Honors as an Agri- Entrepreneur. No single winner was named- Ten were selected for this honor nationally.

In the Judging Teams- Jay FFA gave Oklahoma a second place finish in the Horse Evaluation- the students on that team include Dylan Hall, Josh Cunningham, Rhianna Stockton, and Chaley Allen, all of Jay, Oklahoma. Click here for the news release on that competition

The Elgin FFA team finmished second nationally in the Livestock Judging Competition- team members include Carolyn Doyle, Mark Sims, Callie Fort, and Taylor Fort, all of Elgin HS FFA For the News Release of this event, click here.

Sallisaw FFA placed ninth nationally in the Meats Judging Contest- team members were Justin Brooks, Maigan Sorenson, and Jeanna Philpot, all of Sallisaw HS FFA. Click here for the news release.

Kingfisher FFA brought home Fourth Place Nationally in the Parlimentary Procedure Contest- Team members from Kingfisher included Ashton Mese, Tara Newton, McKenzie Walta, McKenzie Clifton, Kaleigh Stinnett, and Abby Briscoe. Click here for news release on this contest.
